The movie never showed Marcus Aurelius in his youth when he was the ruler, but only showed when he was a dying man. Of course, the movie was not based off Marcus Aurelius, but it could have gone more in depth of what his beliefs were on life and his citizens. The movie kind of represents Rome as a great city, but in reality, while Aurelius was the Emperor, Rome was not all that great. Aurelius went through a tough time during his reign. He spent most of the times defending his empire against the Parthians, Germans, and Britons. The movie also shows him getting killed by his son Commodus, but he really died of a plague during another war in which he was trying to defend the territory of…

In the ancient world, to join the Roman Legion, one had to speak and write Latin. The military, with bases and forts around the world, spread its influence not so much during battles, but by spending money in the local restaurants, marrying the local women, and bringing back bits and pieces of the places they lived for so long to their home cities in their retirement. It 's not just the soldiers themselves. It 's the entire structure and environment of the whole military family that spreads the culture of the empire around the…

Likewise, athletes in today’s sports are equipped with everything they need for a game or for a practice. Depending on their class, gladiators were equipped with padding to protect themselves, however, almost all of them were equipped with a helmet or some sort of head protection. Likewise, wrestlers and football players are also provided with protection for their heads although football helmets are much more protective to cutback on the amount of concussions. The movie’s plotline still loosely follows the series of events that actually took place but has changed quite a lot of the facts. Gladiator warps the facts here because Marcus Aurelius supposedly was murdered by Commodus on the eve of this victory but Aurelius in fact passed away before going out to claim another land. Marcus did conquer many tribes and lands as emperor but did not in fact have a legendary general named “Maximus Decimus Meridius”. The events that actually took place in our historical timeline involve Marcus Aurelius passing away but not at the hand of his son Commodus. The official story states that Aurelius died from plague but some suspect that he was in fact murdered by Commodus. According to historical sources, Commodus was in fact a man of ill worth but Aurelius did give Commodus succession to the…
