How to Write a Personalized Kindergarten Report Card Comment Comments for kindergarten report cards need to be accurate and personal. These comments give teachers and parents a chance to really understand what areas the child excels in and what areas are still weak. Here are some examples of impersonal comments followed by a more appropriate personalized report card comment: Johnnie is a pleasure to have in class. This comment is positive, but tells the parent nothing concrete about Johnnie's behavior. Praise should be specific whenever possible. A better comment would be: Johnnie is always willing to help out in the classroom. Samantha continues to struggle with language arts. The idea here is to provide the parent with an area of weakness that Samantha needs to focus on. The problem is the parent has no idea what specific areas of language arts are problematic. A better comment would be: Samantha continues to have difficulty matching letter sounds to letter names. This gives parents a very specific skill that Samantha can work on at home.
