Personal Statement
Accounting is a comprehensive and integrated system that presents financial information in a form that assists problem solving and decision making. It demonstrates the methods in which transactions are recorded, summarized and analysed ,thereby acting as a measure to ascertain the strengths and weaknesses of a business. To me the most interesting part of accounting is the pattern in which financial statements of a business are interlinked,giving a clear picture of the worth of a business .For instance if there is a Net Loss in Balance sheet then a manager will need to look at the Income Statement to determine the possible cause for a loss. while attempting accounting questions what I enjoy the most is the challenge they bring and the vigilance required to note the double entry effect of a trancastion..this is one of my areas ofinterest as such questions assess the time management and understanding of accounting procedures.
When I started my GCE O Level Accounting course, it appeared as a mystifying array of rules and procedures but as the course commenced lectures and research work gave me a clearer idea about the subject .The research work comprised of reading business magazines and preparing a report, evaluating the progress of a business with the help of accounting data. This activity enhanced my communicative and analytical skills as I learnt to support my ideas through logical reasoning and explain complex ideas into a simplified manner.These abilities will improve my prospects for success in the field of accounting.Taking A level Accounting provided a further insight to the practical application of the subject.it has given me good grounding not only on representation and interpretation of accounting data but also to recognize the limitations of accounting coneventions.For instance the money measurement concept highlights a limitation of accounting that it considers the items that can be valued in monetary terms it does...
