Personal responsibility is very important in life; it encompasses one’s ability to build strong character and moral values. Personal responsibility is needed for encouragement and success as a student in college life. Personal responsibility also plays a vital role in everyone’s success such as a career, college or personal relationships.
A plan of responsibility is needed for a student to effectively reach goals of college success. Having a well-conceived plan for implementing career or college goals is the correct path to Personal Responsibility and College Success One must be accountable for his/her own personal success. The definition of personal responsibility is different for everyone; it consists of different value traits, personal values, and a person’s ethical and moral code. Lack of personal responsibility is considered one of the main causes of American school failure.(Hwang, 1995). As a college student one must show accountability which is being responsible, following through with what needs to be done and being responsible to obligation and duty when required. In essence that would mean showing up for scheduled appointments that are made and abiding to schedules that are in place. Character values are defined as having moral and ethical values, doing homework effectively and practicing integrity in all that one does. Prioritizing ones time is also very important to the college student’s success, making time for family is important because they are a part of ones road to personal success. Family is there for support when needed, family support or close friends support may help the college student stay focused and on the road to personal success. Dedication is also needed for college success, staying focused on your goals, family support and having a sense of purpose will help one stay focused and dedicated.
