I would like to thank my supervisor, Ms. Chartrand, for helping me through this project. She was definitely a good supervisor for me and helped me a lot during this project. She always answered all of my questions and gave me feedback on whatever I needed for my essay and my product. She guided me through this project with an appropriate amount of help. She gave me a lot of ideas and advice on how to make my product and she gave me a variety of options on what to write about and how to create my product. All of her notes and constructive criticism made my project successful and interesting and I would like to thank her for that.

I would also like to thank my sister for encouraging me to keep up with my project. She would always be telling me to keep up with my process journals and to edit and look over my essay at least 3 times a week. She was a big help and I really do thank her for being so supportive and encouraging throughout this whole project.

I would like to thank my mother who helped me with the illustrations for my book, “Chernobyl Adventures”.
Furthermore, I would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Patton for helping me and all of the other students in grade 10 during this project and keeping us organized and answering all of our questions. Having that much responsibility is a lot to handle and I am very grateful that we have such determined teachers at CIS.

Goal
Ever since I watched the movie, The Chernobyl Diaries, I knew that I had to make my personal project about it. It was the only option I had in mind for my project because I was so interested in the topic and the effects and history of the disaster. Doing research about world events wasn’t really the type of thing I usually did and I wasn’t always interested in disasters but the Chernobyl disaster really caught my attention when I started to look into it more.

My goal for my personal project was to raise awareness and to teach people more about the Chernobyl disaster in 1986. To do this I looked into the AOI’s to find out which suited my project the best. After planning and setting small charts/web’s to connect all of the AOI’s with my advisor (see appendix 2), I finally came to the conclusion that my goal related to Human Ingenuity. By the end of this project I would like to be able to be able to understand and to help others understand the consequences of such nuclear disasters.

My Area of Interaction focus for this project is human ingenuity because human ingenuity includes consequences of creation. The proper definition of human ingenuity is, “the focus on the evolution, process and products of human creativity and their impact on life and society. Human ingenuity provides opportunities for students to appreciate and develop in themselves the human capacity to create, transform, enjoy and improve the quality of life.” (ibo) As much as I would love to teach and inform the whole world about the Chernobyl disaster, I knew that that would be unrealistic so I decided to narrow down my option to just teaching younger children.
