Personal Preference
My obsession began this summer when my friends talked me into going to see Twilight. Stubborn at first, I soon became reluctant, so off we went. The movie had been out for 2 weeks and the theater was still packed. So we took our seats in the front row and waited for the movie to begin. As soon as it was over, I bought the book and I’ve been hooked every since. While the movie was a huge success, the Twilight book is without a doubt better.
Edward Cullen is one of the main characters in the Twilight story. In the story, Edward has many not so human characteristics that are explained in the book, but you don’t catch onto these characteristics as quickly in the movie, causing you to not understand some very humorous parts until later. When seeing the movie first, I felt lost to why everyone was laughing at these parts that weren’t the least bit funny to me. Curious to why everyone was laughing I went home and read the first Twilight book. After watching the movie again, I was no longer lost, making these random parts suddenly extremely funny to me. One of Edward’s characteristics is his great sense of smell; Bella, the other main character, has blood that smells amazing to him. He also has amazing hearing and, on top of that, he can hear people’s thoughts. In Edward’s first scene of the movie, when Bella asks her friends who Edward is, he can hear the girls whispering at the table about him and he can hear their thoughts about him causing him to smirk. When watching the movie first, you don’t know his talents; therefore you don’t catch the smirk.
Another thing with books being made into movies is that meticulous details have to be left out, rearranged and even ideas added. Unfortunately, Twilight, the movie, leaves many significant details out. In the book, Bella makes dinner for her dad and herself every night.
