personal odyssey lol
There have been many places I’ve gone and people I’ve met that have changed who I am and still continue to affect me today. My home in Virginia, family in North Carolina and Maryland, and even going to school every day has shaped me as a person and has helped me open my eyes and learn how the real world is. Although some people may not realize it, but they could be a completely different person than who they were a few months ago. People, including me, are changing over time and the things they do and the people the meet effect who they become whether they like it or not.
First, not only have I been to Northern Virginia, but I have lived here for fourteen years and counting. However, I am not necessarily happy about it, which brings me to the many things I have learned while living in Northern Virginia. I have met many new people and have seen and done incredible things while living here and I’m positive that there will be many more to come, but it’s getting old. The amount of fantastic things I have had the privilege of experiencing is countless; actually, almost every day I’m living here, I’m either experiencing new things, meeting new people or just smiling and laughing. Some of the people that I’m surrounded by every day, I couldn’t imagine living without. Not only have I experienced amazing things, but I have also gone through some of the worst experiences of my life. For example, I have been diagnosed with an eating disorder because I have discovered while living here every teenage girls dream is to be thin and I was the exact opposite, so I did everything I could to be so. Also, there are countless amounts of things I have learned, not just in school but just by living here, I have learned and been exposed to how people truly are, what can bring out the worst in people and how selfish some people can be. I would have never thought that my best friend would become someone I would never associate with during the course of a year.
I’ve also been to North

I did mention myself changing. A lot of things promoted that growth. Many outside forces that I did not mention in my previous writings influenced me to grow and made me into who I am today. The main catalyst for my personal growth was going on that trip and gaining perspective. Getting out of my small town, I realized that my problems were so miniscule and that there was a whole world out there. From there I spent more time with family, rekindled my love for art, and transferred to a different school. The hard time I went through was awful, but it promoted so much growth and has made me into the person I am…

Do I think that most people that I come into contact with will change me in some kind of way? Yes I do, I work for a Mental Health Clinic, and on a daily basis get to meet a whole bunch of different people. Some teach me that unlike Steve we are all not “normal” or what may be the definition of “normal” to one person, another definition of “normal” is different for them. It has also taught me that you cannot take a grain of assault with everything said and that life is very precious and to be glad that we do not have to struggle on a daily basis, and be thankful for what we have in life, because others are not as fortunate as us to have food and shelter and even a job.…

When most people think about a significant experience as something like; studying abroad, taking vacations, or meeting new people. Now while I have met many types of people and traveled quite a bit, none of these experiences have been nearly as significant to me as my childhood. I lived in a small, falling apart, purple house in the heart of Bessemer that was perfect because it is all we could afford. This house and neighborhood forced me to be resourceful and it taught me that nothing in my life is going to come without hard work. Those lessons crafted me into the industrious, diligent, and determined person that I am today.…

It was the morning of move in day. I said goodbye to my home and headed out. I passed the local shopping market and my high school where I enjoyed a fun four years. As I headed to Norman I realized I was leaving everything I had ever known. All my life has consisted of living in the same house, going to school with the same kids, and going to the same supermarkets and restaurants. While I’d like to say I have developed a good idea of the world around me by visiting so many cities around the United States, in reality the only world I’ve ever known is the same one I have spent my whole life in. I have loved growing up in Northwest Oklahoma City with the friends that have helped shaped me into who I am today, however I relished the opportunity…

People are like clay in the process of being sculpted, always changing and never be the same afterwards. We age, learn and grow everyday of our lives. Sometimes we experience events that change us in some way and we can look back on that event and recognize a difference before and after that moment. A life-changing experience that greatly contributed to forming the person I am today occurred during a three day confirmation retreat. I was born and raised Catholic, so it was expected that I would do Confirmation, and up until that point, I had been mostly passive about it before, seeing it as simply another after school activity.…
