Exercise can increase cardiovascular efficiency, add muscle strength, improve flexibility and allow for greater endurance. Exercise reduces blood pressure, helps to strengthen the heart and decrease the likelihood of heart attack. Increased muscle strength can improve posture, ward off back pain and help balance, decreasing the possibility of falls. The benefits of exercise can help all people, especially the elderly, to lead independent lives that are both physically and mentally healthier. Fitness is a measure of how healthy a person is. A fit person is able to increase the lifespan, avoid chronic diseases, improve work capacity, and enjoy an overall better quality of life. Exercise plays a critical role in the treatment of diabetes. The physical activity does not need be vigorous; however some kind of exercise is a must or serious complications can develop.
