Critical Thinking Question Number 1
(Chapter 3)

A person can determine his or her personal ethical code by first determining their character base. Next, make a list of all of the beliefs that influence their ability to make decisions. They then need to think about how their behavior reflects those beliefs. Finally, they need to think about where their beliefs and views of their character came from and why they hold those beliefs.

I believe that my strongest strength is Honesty, authenticity, and genuineness. I am an honest person, not only by speaking the truth but by living my life in a genuine and authentic way. I am usually down to earth and without pretense; I am a "real" person. I am loyal and dedicated, always trying to do my share, and I work hard at everything I do. A few of my other strengths is kindness and generosity. I always try to be kind and generous to others, and I am never too busy to do a favor; even if I have to put something I am doing on hold to help them out. This at times can also be one of my weakness since I am always putting others needs and wants before my own. This can sometimes leave me drained, but I was raised that do unto others as you want others to do unto you. I enjoy doing good deeds for others, even if I do not know them well. The power of helping others makes them feel good and they then themselves will pay it forward and help another.

There are many contributing forces that have helped build my personal code of ethics or who I am today. I was raised that honesty is always the best method and that do unto others as you would want them to do unto you. My parents and grandparents instilled that belief into one of my characteristic. When I was kid and did something that I should not do, I was told now be honest and you will not be in trouble. I also believe that everyday trials and tribulations also help define who we are today. The misfortunes or hardships we face can only make us stronger.
