PEPSICO
By: Quentin Singleton
Pepsi is the leader in drinks and food products. They make more products than Coca-Cola and Dr. Pepper combined. Pepsi has everybody's favorite snacks and drinks like... Pepsi, Doritos, The G series,(gatorade) Frito Lays, Cheetos, Sierra Mist, Tropicana, and Quakers, are some of the top sellers in the Pepsi collection. Pepsi-Cola was created by Caleb Bradham. Pepsi-Cola was first called Brad's Drink in 1893. The soda was invented in a small town in North Carolina, called New Bern.

Pepsi-Cola went into bankruptcy in 1931 during the Great Depression. Pepsi couldn't afford sugar during World War l. Assets were sold and the trademark was bought by a man name Roy C. Mergargel. They went into bankruptcy eight years later and assets were sold to a man name Charles Guth. Charles Guth owned a number of retail stores. He originally sold Coca-Cola fountain drinks in his stores but Coca-Cola refused to give him a discount on syrup, so he went with Pepsi-Cola. During the Great Depression Pepsi-Cola was changed to a shorter name.(Pepsi)

During the Great Depression Pepsi-Cola gain popularity because of their 12 ounce bottles for 10 cent. Pepsi started to dominate in their rivialry with Coca-Cola. Instead of buying a 6 ounce 10 cent Coke you could buy a 12 ounce Pepsi for the same price. But today Coca-Cola is what people perfer over Pepsi, but Pepsi is in front of Coke in the top 500 corporations. Today a lady by the name Indra Nooyi is the big investor and practicly run Pepsi. This is my essay on Pepsico. Really it's a big bisness!

Both companies have expanded into new product markets in more recent years. They have chosen to invest their earnings in new ventures like bottled water, snack foods, and iced tea, and they each strive to continue increasing their profits in many ways. Pepsi-Cola began as a drink developed by a pharmacist named Caleb Bradham in his drugstore in 1893. The soft drink was made to be a tonic to aid in digestion and as a refreshing drink that gives an energy boost. This concoction made of pepsin and kola nuts was originally called “Brad’s Drink” named after its inventor, but was later changed to Pepsi-Cola to be more marketable. Originally, this beverage was sold in drug stores and at soda fountains, but was later sold in bottled form to facilitate mass distribution. The Great Depression was a major setback for many American companies and there was no exception for Pepsi. However, the company strived to remain strong and offered its product for five cents in the mid thirties while touting that their product offered twice as much for half the price of Coke’s product. During this time their ad campaigns and marketing tactics worked and their company continued to remain profitable despite a harsh economic climate. Pepsi marketed its products to virtually everyone, young and old, but they often utilized creative marketing tactics to entice new customers to try their products. In the mid 1940’s Pepsi began a marketing campaign to gain more popularity with African American customers whom the company decided where not getting adequate attention with regards to marketing and advertising. PepsiCo today now has interests in many different brands and product lines. Some of their most notable brands familiar to consumers today are Pepsi-Cola, Frito-Lays, SoBe, Tostitos, Sabra, Near East, Pasta Roni, Sun Chips, Cheetos, Quaker, Doritos, Sierra Mist, and Dole to name a few.
