The Peace Corps is a reputable organization that has created opportunity for underprivileged countries to progress. It is historically known of what the Peace Corps does and has done both medically and in the field of education. Bringing medical services to the countries in need of disease control and building for the futures of the people of these countries. Joining the Peace Corps is change in both the life of the volunteer and the world we live in.

A little over fifty years ago, John F. Kennedy launched a governmental program to help progress underdeveloped countries and promote worldwide togetherness with the United States (Examining Today’s Peace Corps 2011). The Corps was originally designed with three main objectives in mind as explained in the article “Examining Today’s Peace Corps.” The three objectives are, helping the people of interested countries with training and educating their men and women, promoting a better understanding of who Americans are in regards to the people served, and gaining an understanding of the people served from an American stand point. These objectives haven’t deviated much in the years that the Peace Corps has been around. With new technologies in this day in age, the Corps has focused on its efficiency in using its resources to be as effective as possible. They want to expand their global presence and offer as much service as they can. To be effective the Corps is targeting the self-sustainability of less fortunate countries.

In a segment by Martin (2013), an interview was conducted with Carrie Hessler-Radelet the acting director of the Peace Corps, and Dr. Vanessa Kerry the founder of Global Health Service Partnership.
