Patton-Fuller Community Hospital
An environment that is supportive of team functioning and learning provides team members support and encourages the freedoms of creativity and innovation. These characteristics are achieved by creating a professionally rich diverse and skilled team. Diverse teams have been proven to perform and produce quality work. The basis for this argument is based upon McGrath’s 1964 model of team effectiveness, which is determined by a basic equation for an organizations increased chances of creating a productive team (Patton-fuller community hospital, 2006). The equation McGrath developed, suggest that certain and varying inputs from the team lead to differences in team processes, which will affect team output. All of the above assumptions are based upon individual input, team factors, as well as environmental factors (Jex & Britt, 2008). For example, individual input is based on individual characteristics and skill, team factors is based on outlined roles, and environmental factors are based on team task (Patton-fuller community hospital, 2006). Patton Fuller Community Hospital is a very successful community staple that has been providing quality care to the community for decades. In reviewing Patton-Community Hospitals job descriptions and job duties outlined on their website, I noticed many of their job duties failed to mention team effort and participation as a requirement or expectation. This can speak to the importance, or lack thereof, of employees working together, or it can suggest to perspective employees that working as a team is not a requirement, either way, this failure to mention teamwork has the potential to promote a work environment that lacks cohesiveness. Patton-Fuller Community Hospital will need to revisit their outlined job descriptions and duties. The role of leader fails...
