Parker Earth Moving Company has failed to improve and keep up with future technologies and adapt to recent innovations in information technology.   In fact, our firm finds that Parker Earth Moving Company is several generations behind in information technology. Our first recommendation is that an IT department be formed with a group of managers to report to department heads. PEMC must endure the challenge of creating and adapting a system beneficial to operational processes. The task of building a viable Information Technology Department with a state-of-the-art system will be daunting. Nevertheless, it must be done. The new generation of information technology must be a fully integrated system from order entry to cash application. Parker Earth Moving Company has no sense of urgency to get things done—particularly in the implementation of new technology. “I’m too busy to even think about it,” “we do not need technology to do our jobs,” “we have gotten by for many years with the present way of doing things,” “why change now,” and “I am far too old to learn the computer” are just some of the excuses given in defiance of the use of technology. Relevant to the situation facing the company is the fact that the Information Technology Department exists in name only.   The department is understaffed and the department manager is ill-trained and only minimally qualified. Information technology is a vital form of growth that plays a role in the success or failure of the business operations of any company, so this should be considered, while thinking about the competitive advantage.
