Introduction
For this project we had to experiment to see the effects of blue light on a plants growth. We had to research on light and its effects on photosynthesis. This helped me with my experiment because I had knowledge for what was going on with the plants and light. For this project I and one of my classmates had to conduct a experiment to see the effects of blue light versus white light. For this project we had to grow lentil beans under white and blue light and water and measure them daily. My experimental question was what is the effect of blue light on the height of lentil beans? Energy is important to my topic because we are testing the effects of light energy on a plants development. Energy is the ability to do work. Some types of energy are light, thermal, sound, nuclear, electric, chemical, and mechanical energy. Energy is transferred from one place to another with waves. All waves have amplitude, wavelength, and frequency. The electromagnetic spectrum is the range of wavelengths or frequencies over which electromagnetic radiation extends. In the electromagnetic spectrum the visible light falls in the middle. Visible light waves are the only electromagnetic waves we can see. We see the waves as all the colors of the rainbow. Each color has a different wavelength. Red has the longest wavelength and violet has the shortest wavelength. When all the waves are seen together, they make white light. The difference between the colors we see is wave length. Light is important to all organisms on this this planet because it keeps the food chain going. For example without light plants can’t develop which means the omnivores and herbivores can’t strive witch also means the carnivores won’t have anything to eat. Thus saying all the energy comes from the plants which receive energy from light. So without light there is no chance for life on earth. The roles of produces are to produce energy for consumers. Photosynthesis is the process that autotrophs/ produces carry out in order to create energy. The word literally means photo= light synthesis= to make. This happens with plants and algae. Photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplast using chlorophyll in the green pigment. The chlorophyll absorbs red and blue light but not the green light which is why we see green. Two types of energy involved in photosynthesis is light energy and chemical energy. Photosynthetic organisms use light energy from the sun to transform the reactants, carbon dioxide and water into sugar and oxygen gas. The reactants (CO2 & H2O) come from organisms, and are also found in the atmosphere. The reactants get to the plants different ways, water goes through the roots and carbon dioxide comes in through he stoma. In photosynthesis solar energy is changed to chemical energy. The chemical energy is stored like glucose. Carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight are used to produce glucose and oxygen. Photosynthesis occurs in two stages light reaction and dark reaction. Light reactions occur in thylakoid stacks of the grana this is where sunlight is converted in to chemical energy and the chlorophyll absorbs light energy and energy is released from the stomata. Dark reactions occur in the stomata where carbon dioxide is converted to sugar. The products of photosynthesis are glucose which is sugar and oxygen. Material list
