INTRODUCTION
Pakistan has seen a dramatic development in the field of telecommunications in the recent years. As a result; the telecom companies have attracted many employees and have become top employers in the country. These firms require engineers, marketing persons and finance people in large numbers. Availability of such opportunities in local market means that local talent does not have to search for job abroad. Also the pay scales of our local market are much less than that of international market. So the telecom firms also feel comfortable in gathering local talent instead of “importing” such expertise from abroad. However a wave of stagnancy is now being observed in this field. As more telecom service providers have entered into the market and the growth rate of telecom services in Pakistan is moving towards a constant growth instead of exponential growth; there is an increased level of competition and revenues are sinking. This is forcing the firms to decrease their operational expenses. The best way of controlling the operational expenses is to get maximum efficiency from minimum number of employees. This is resulting in tougher job situations for employees. Also as the employees are gaining experience; they constantly get better opportunities abroad and are leaving Pakistan for better job prospects. This is creating an alarming situation as the brain drain of such qualified professionals means that our national development cannot keep up to the pace of world. The aim of this study is to see the perceptions and attitudes of the telecom sector employees and to study how do they feel about their working conditions and what are the main reasons of employees fleeing from the top telecom companies of Pakistan. This study will enable us to pin point the issues currently being faced by this group of people. We will also formulate recommendations for the companies so that their employees may feel more empowered and they have better sense of achievement while working in Pakistani telecom sector. The report will be based upon a survey that will be designed to get maximum information from the employees that are willing to take the survey. It will be in form of simple questions and the information gathered will be used for reaching conclusions regarding employee perception regarding their job, their teams, their firm and their senior management. Firstly the methodology for the report was designed. Then the survey questionnaire was made according to that methodology. The survey was taken from fifty people who were working in different departments of Pakistani telecom service providers. These people were working in different positions of middle and lower level management and at team-lead levels. This type of people was selected because firstly they constitute majority of the human-resource of any company. Secondly they are generally “coal-face employees” meaning these are the people who carry out all the operational tasks in any firm and have to do maximum level of work load. Thus any recommendations...
