“Violence against Women by Intimate Partners”

      The article “Violence against Women by Intimate Partners” is a wakeup call for both men and women in the contemporary society (205). The article stipulates clearly the far reaching repercussions resulting from domestic abuse. It is true that women make the highest percentage of the abused population because naturally they are weaker than their male counterparts in terms of physical strength. That is why 10 to 20 percent of women are victims of physical and emotional abuse such as beatings and the use of abusive language (206).

      Amazingly, domestic abuse or violence against women is executed by the intimate people around them, that is, their husbands and intimate male friends. The question is why is this so? It is hard to comprehend the fact that an intimate friend becomes an enemy to the extent of causing death to the other person. Surprisingly, in the article physical abuse is regarded as the leading cause of death among the women.

      What this means is that physical abuse in the domestic setting overtakes diseases such as heart attack, cervical and ovarian cancers, HIV/AIDS and many other precarious diseases in terms of lives lost by women in a given year. This is surprising because domestic abuse can easily be controlled by imposing stiff penalties on the culprits yet it continues to claim numerous lives (206).

      Although reasons such as stress are stated as the leading cause of domestic abuse or violence against women in the article, I disagree with such arguments because there are many ways of relieving stress and many people are able to manage stress through drinking alcohol or going out with friends for night sprees. In addition, women are also human beings and many working women also face stressful moments in their workplaces or even at home.
