Wysocki (2009) defines the five project management life cycle (PMLC) models as Linear PMLC – (Traditional Project Management Methodology); in this PMLC, the goal as well as the solution of the project is clearly defined. This method is great for construction and infrastructure projects; wherein the project doesn’t start until all the plans (drawings) are ready. The greatest disadvantage is that it does not handle change easily (the multiple steps required in a scope change tend to swamp the project and slow it down). Another weakness of the model is that because of its linear nature, one cannot learn from a previous process group. Incremental PMLC – (Traditional Project Management Methodology) during its process, this methodology produces deliverables incrementally until the final deliverable is produced. This is a method that is used mainly in production (marketing) of products. This method actually encourages change because it provides an opportunity for the project manager to examine deliverables and effect corrections or changes, hence there is a possibility of scope change occurring. Iterative PMLC – (Agile Project Management Methodology) is the appropriate choice for projects where some features are missing or not known. In this process, change is required because it is through the repetitions of the iterations that a solution is eventually arrived at. The client also receives more information from the deliverables or products of the iterations which he feeds back to the project team. Adaptive PMLC – (Agile Project Management Methodology) in this PMLC components of both functions and features are not known and the solution are also not known. This PMLC is usually used for software development projects, and therein lays the disadvantage, although it’s possible to apply this PMLC to other projects. ’APF is really a hybrid that takes the best from TPM and xPM.
