One can tell a lot about Othello just by knowing what his name means. The name Othello describes a person that has strong desires for harmony, and to be in a warm, friendly atmosphere. In search for comfort, security and beauty, attracted towards the arts. Wants help, advice, and someone to listen. They would generally be an easy-going and responsible person. Their faults are that they forget their own strength in being too occupied by others. There is sometimes weakness of character because of taking pleasure in comfort and being too romantic. This is very true of the character Othello in the play, it describes him indefinitely. "Iago has only to push Othello to the belief that he has been betrayed and Othello does the rest, judging, condemning, and executing Desdemona". Critic Brian Jones gives this thought. (Jones)
Othello suggests that he is a man of true virtue of love and war, when he truly is not. He was blinded by his own jealousy so much to the point that he forgot about how much Desdemona loved him. And how she would never do anything to disobey his trust, but because he chose to believe that she could be so un-loyal, one is left to think that he doubted himself first. If he did not he would have known that he was man enough for her and she would never do that to him. But because of his own insecurities he could not see that.
