1. Introduction This report is for a summer placement at the University of Nottingham with Dr Alexander Kalashnikov. This placement is a foundation for the final year project that is about electronics mobility system for blind people. This placement is about to test and study the Cypress PSoc5. The first objective of this placement is to be familiar with PSoC5 design environment and the design flow. Secondly, is to use the development board (CY8CKIT-050 PSoC® 5 Development Kit) and test each future of this kit. Finally, is to use PSoC 5 in the receiver circuit for the final year project. PSoC is kind of software configured that is a mixed-signal array with a Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) core is built-in. Three different families of devices are provided and the one for PSoC5 is CY8C5xxxx series and PSoC 5 came with CPU ARM Cortex M3. PSoC1 was not used in this placement because it uses a very poor processor that goes up to 24 MHz, 4 MIPS and a low flash from 4 KB to 32 KB. In contrast, the PSoC 5 uses up to 67 MHz, 100 MIPS processor and flash from 32 KB to 256 KB. In appendix1 a full comparison between PSoC1, PSoC3 and PSoC5 is provided. PSoC Creator 2.0 software will be used with PSoC 5 for the design flow. The design flow is: first create schematic than second set the pins then third write the code then finally build and program. The electronics requirement for the final year project is: The duplexer circuit, the driver circuit and the receiver circuit. The receiver circuit is the main part of that project and it is consisted of five parts: Band Pass Filter (BPF), Programmable Gain Amplifier (PGA), microcontroller, SAR Analoge to Digital Converter (ADC) and USB UART. PSoC5 can integrate the receiver circuit and do all the work of these elements by using one chip.

2. PSoC5 2.1 CY8CKIT-050 PSoC® 5 Development Kit The CY8CKIT-505 PSoC® 5 Development Kit allows the user to evaluate, develop and prototype high precision analog, lowpower and low-voltage application powered by Cypress’s CY8C55 high precision analog device family. The PSOC Expansion Board Kit ecosystem is supported in this kit and it is designed for analog performance. Moreover, in this kit, the ENOB very close to 20 bits. remove power to Potentiometer, RS232 converter and to have a signal regulator for analog and digital domain with evaluation of the low power operation of PSoC5. CY8CKIT-505 PSoC® 5 Development Kit has a CapSense touch-sensing interface. A two CapSense buttons that connected to pins P5[6] and P5[5] are provided. Moreover, there is a 5-element CapSense slider which is connected to pins P5[0:4]. This kit has a character LCD module that connected to the character LCD header (P8).
