EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This proposal analyzes the unsuccessful team work in the newly-organized marketing department staff of Jan and John Smith Company, indentifies the causes of the ineffective employee’s team work and provides recommendations how to build an effective team and organize successful decision-making discussions. Importance of Team Work Improvements

The company has lost about $100,000 after hiring the seven new marketing department employees and starting the marketing actions designed by them. These actions have been unsuccessful. To improve the company’s financial state and provide future successful work of the marketing department it is necessary to organize effective team work in this department. Causes of Ineffective Team Work

According to observations the research analyzes the low-effective teamwork of the employees and reveals the following causes of it: * low level of corporate culture
* poor-organized teambuilding system in the department

To organize an effective team the company should provide a complex of actions, starting with clarifying the corporate philosophy, determining goals of an organization, forming a strategy of a company, improving corporate culture, developing team spirit, and only tean creating an effective team. To make work of the newly-created team better it is important to lead well-organized discussions that include: time limits, a controller (who initiates a discussion, politely interrupts the dominant team members, reminds the team of time limits, encourages the initiative of team members, clarifies the tasks, acts as a mediator in conflicts, evaluates progress of the team in achieving goals, helps to realize team roles), a list of rules, and rational distribution of duties. All of these actions require involvement of the top management and money, time and labor resources. IINTRODUCTION

The marketing department is an essential part of any company, effective work of which can greatly increase sales of a company. So, three months ago the top management of Jan and John Company came to decision to hire seven new marketing department specialists. Despite the fact that the new staff of the marketing department consists of highly professional and creative people they have showed low results working on the projects in the team. As most of newly-organized teams the marketing department employees have confronted with many problems (conflicts, poor communication, offences, unequal distribution of duties, etc.) that have made their joint work ineffective caused company’s money loss. To analyze these problems, define causes of them and develop recommendations for forming well-performed team two-month research was conducted from October 20, 2010 till November 20, 2010.
