Ethical standards play an important role in the structure and foundation of any successful company. Ethics is the study of what is right and wrong or what is good and bad. It is important to have a company or organization that holds its ethical standards very high. Not only do you want to make sure that the company that you work for is following all the laws that it needs to, you want to be sure that they also respect human rights as well as know what is right from wrong or good from bad, and when someone goes against that, they are dealt with properly. The company that I chose to assess is the company that I am proud to work for, Wynn Resorts. Wynn Resorts are known for being the winner of the most Forbes five star awards in the world to their amazing entertainment values and shows ("Wynn Las Vegas", 2015). Wynn Resorts take their code of business conduct and ethics very seriously. We have policies and procedures set into place so that we can ensure we remain the winner and give our guests exactly what they need without bending social or business barriers, yet catering to our guest needs.
External social pressures will always play an important role in how an organizations ethics are influenced. Not all external social pressures are good, yet being aware of them, we are able to stay in touch with the times and hopefully learn from them and move forward. With the internet being literally at everyone’s fingertips these days, companies are unable to ignore social pressures that their communities are placing on them. Organizations are constantly becoming more up to date on what is happening in rival business as well as their communities via social media. It is harder for companies to go against social norms due to the rapid forms of communication which keep their surrounding communities as well as businesses informed of how they are doing.     Ethical behavior within a company is very important to its future and success. This type of behavior is not just important for the employees to follow, but for the entire company. In 2001, a failing company called Enron was involved in numerous unethical behaviors.     In order for the directors and executives in any company to know that their employees are acting in an ethical manner, they need a defined code of conduct that lays out the boundaries and freedoms for each employee. Creating this code requires a framework around which the tenants of the company can be developed and expanded to fill the ethical standards and expectations.     An organization should perform with ethical conduct at all times- this means that both the employers and employees must act respectably throughout all the various dimensions of business practice and transactions with consistent ethicality. Good business ethics are vital for the success of any organization, and should be established from the very beginning; an organization will function better when the company morale is high, and the organization is built upon a strong ethical foundation.     A survey conducted by NBES indicated that 79 percent of employees agree that ethics is important in continuing to work for their employer while approximately 20 percent of employees are not concerned about the ethical environment of the organization. According to Ferrell & Faedrich (2010), a commitment by the organization to goodwill and respect for its employees usually increases the employees’ loyalty to the organization. The misconduct by executives, slow responses to disasters, money mismanagement, and donation mismanagement issues caused a division between the organization and its employees, investors, customers, and bottom line. The unethical behavior at American Red Cross (ARC) does not impact employee commitment, however, it does enhance productivity and loyalty. The investor loyalty was compromised after the events at ARC because donors were no longer able to trust that their money would be used for what it was intended for. This made it more difficult for ARC to raise money for future disasters because people were not making as many donations as in the past. Investors are becoming increasingly concerned with ethics, social responsibility, and reputation of companies because negative publicity, lawsuits, and fines as a result of unethical behavior can lower stock prices, diminish customer loyalty, and threaten a company’s long-term viability (pg 19). The reputation created by the acts of certain employees of American Red Cross caused mistrust among employees, customers, and investors. Employees are less likely to stay with an organization they don’t trust, customers are less likely to remain loyal to an organization that is deceptive, and investors are less likely to invest funds for an organization that is not generating income due to its unethical behavior.     In today’s society most people that work in a corporation often come across and have to deal with on the job ethical issues. “Ethics is a conception of right and wrong conduct.
