Organizational Culture Affecting Change
Organizational culture affects change in positive and negative proportions. Organizational culture refers to a system of shared meaning held by members that distinguishes the organization from other organizations. Change within an organization is necessary to improve efficiency and effective of daily operations towards increasing growth and sustainability. The CEO of S&F online, Irene Seagraves wants to consolidate the S&F online division operations and has recruited a Chief Operating Officer, (COO) to oversee the division and implement change. Smith & Falmouth (S&F) is a mid-size tele-shopping and mail order network with operations in the US and Canada. Smith & Falmouth started an e-tailing division S&F online division. The online division is considered crucial to S&F growth. The COO will review the current methods of control, departmental and organizational cultures, formulate a restructing strategy, review management practices, and provide a brief on how the new structure will affect S&F online division of individual staff, teams and the future of S&F online.
The current method of control at S&F online is a wide span of control of CEO, Irene Seagrave, a Project Manager, Logistic manager and Marketing manager. The Project manager, James Argyle, managers six member web development team who maintains the online sales, channel comprising the S&F website and payment gateway. Brian Kerver, logistics manager manages a team of three members who manage order handling, customer support and delivery operations, and the Adam Searle, marketing manager who oversees logistics with customer order fulfillment, product line, marketing budgeting and promotion activities.
