Diagnosis and assessment is a comprehensive analysis of every critical aspect of an organization’s behavior and infrastructure and its casual relationship to the effectiveness and efficiency of the organizations performance. The diagnosis focuses on organizational objectives, individual objectives, how work is organized, supporting infrastructures, behavioral reinforcement characteristics, management and employee competencies, organizational values and norms, the degree and causes of customer’s satisfaction, and the degree employees are engaged in improvement of organization performance and so on. The effective diagnosis of organizational culture, structural and operational strengths and weaknesses are fundamental to any successful organizational development intervention. In rapidly changing environment, new organization forms must be developed, more effective goal setting and planning processes must be learned. Practice teams of independent people must spend time improving their methods of working, decision making and communicating. Competing or conflicting groups must move towards a collaborative way of work. In order for changes to occur and be maintained, planned, managed change is necessary. Since the beginning of organizational development as a profession, diagnosis has moved from the purely behavior toward a strategic and holistic business diagnosis approach.
