Organizational behavior is the basic understanding and awareness of how people, individuals, and groups act in organizations. Outstanding organizational behavior is developed through good relations among persons, groups, organizations, and their social system on and off the job. Organizational behavior helps to build healthier relations by achieving human, organizational, and social objectives. According to Jones and George of Understanding and Managing Organizational Behavior, organizational behavior provides a framework for understanding and appreciating the many forces that affect behavior in organizations (p. 4).
Organizational behavior creates good leadership skills and promotes better work attributes that motivate employees to appreciate their organizations more and inspire them to work harder. This ultimately creates organizational growth, influencing the bottom line. For example, when an employee is recognized for leadership qualities, this encourages others to work harder indicating that management recognizes the effort. This simple note of “ thank you” goes a far way, this demonstrate that you are valuable asset within the organization.
Organizational culture is the trait of the organization. Assumptions, values, norms, are tangible behavioral signs that shape the organization and its members. Culture affects what happens and does not happen in an organization; it is the driving force behind products, policies, services, and rewards are the ingredients that determine the results in organization. According to Schein, (1993), organizational culture is a “pattern of shared basic assumptions that the group or organization learned as it solves its problems of external adaptation and internal integration” (¶ 3).
