II. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The management of either branch—Trinoma Mall or Market-Market—of Kevin’s Kut was very much displeased to admit that neither the employees nor the manager know the historical background of the company. Only the owner, Ms. Aileen Gonzalez, knows the details. However, the management refused to give any contact number of Ms. Gonzalez so as to protect her and giver her privacy. With all due respect, we accepted such verdict.
III. NATURE OF THE BUSINESS
Kevin’s Kut is a barber shop and salon that aims primarily in conferring grooming services, comfort and convenience on its customers. Its services offered are classified into two main categories, namely, ‘for men’ and ‘for women.’ To provide a premium service, the business consists of four efficient teams with competitive personnel. Aside from the manager and supervisor, four employees are responsible for the barbers; the same number of employees acts as hairdressers; three of them are in-charge of the nail art (manicure and pedicure); and two employees are in the counter section—they primarily act as receptionists and cashiers at the same time. Apart from offering services, Kevin’s Kut also puts up various beauty and hair products for sale.
IV. ORGANIZATIONAL CHART
OWNER- The owner is the person who possesses the exclusive right to hold, use, benefit from, enjoy, convey, transfer, and otherwise dispose of the assets or properties of Kevin’s Kut company.
MANAGER- The manager is the person responsible for planning and directing the work of a group of the company’s employees, monitoring their work, and taking corrective action when necessary. He has the power to hire or fire employees or to promote them. Also, the manager has the authority to change the work assignments of team members.
SUPERVISOR- The supervisor assists the manger. He is the one who is in charge of a particular department, unit or team.
EMPLOYEES AND CASHIER- The employees are those who work in the service of the owner subject to a contract for hire. They are the ones responsible for rendering service to the customers. The cashier, on the hand, is the a person hired to collect and keep a record of customers' payments and is responsible for receipts and disbursements.
CUSTOMERS- The customers are the ones who avail the service rendered of product sold by Kevin’s Kut.
V. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
As we were conducting the interview, the manager had told us that one of their main technical quandaries is that they always have to call the staff from the company’s main branch just to record the time they arrive at work and go home. For them, this is such a huge inconvenience especially when the employees arrive at the same time. They usually have to line up to wait until they get their turn to use the telephone. According to the manager, it would be of big help if a program in the computer will be used to record their time-ins and time-outs. It will be very convenient; also, it will be a huge depreciation in the telephone bill.
Another problem the company has is that their reservation system is done manually. Once they receive a call from a customer, they write his name, desired time of reservation, date and the kind of service he shall avail on a logbook. This is very inconvenient since they have to go over the reservations just to find out if a customer has already booked on the same day or time the other customer wishes to book.
