By Ted Kameron

Even though Steve jobs and Oprah Winfrey are similar in their success and are philanthropists, they differ in their fields.
This essay will compare and contrast two famous individuals: Steve Jobs and Oprah Winfrey. They both changed the world in their own way. Steve Jobs is most notably known for co-founding Apple Computers and Oprah Winfrey is known for her multi-award winning talk-show. Even though Steve jobs and Oprah Winfrey are similar in their success and their childhood, they differ in their fields.
The first similarity that Steve Jobs and Oprah Winfrey have in common is their success. Steve Jobs was born on February 1955 in San Francisco, California. He was an artist, a technologist and a great marketer. Though he was a college dropout, he was a genius. He became a genius through deliberate practice to develop targeted skills. He researched and read about the great people who inspired him and some of them even became his mentors. He applied their proven success principles to his own life. For example Thomas Edison the great American inventor inspired Steve the technologist, singer Bob Dylan inspired Steve the artist and Regis McKenna the marketing guru of Silicon Valley inspired Steve the marketer. He co-founded Apple Computers alongside his childhood friend Steve Wozniak. At first the duo struggled to keep the company; however, they succeeded without selling company’s shares to the public. Whereas, Oprah Winfrey born on January 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi is known for her world’s famous TV talk show the “Oprah Winfrey Show”. She had been inspired by Barbara Walters a senior talk show host. She started off as a news anchor on a local radio station where she talked about life related issues. That blew up into even bigger and greater things to a point that when she received her own talk-show it became syndicated around the world and it’s been like that for the last twenty five years. As a host Oprah was able to connect with her audience

I consider Bill Gates and Steve Jobs to be the greatest leaders in American business. Over the past 25 years, technology was the industry of choice for many of the top business people. Microsoft 's Bill Gates and Apple’s Steve Jobs both exemplify the explosion in that realm. Gates, Microsoft chairman and world 's richest man, is the No. 1 business leader of the past quarter-century for his mix of entrepreneurial energy, dogged leadership and philanthropic interest. The points that make them great leaders are the fact that they were both great visionaries. For example Bill Gates vision was that “Every business and household must have a computer and must run Microsoft software” while Steve Jobs vision was “to make the best devices in the world, not to be the biggest”. Other important point was the fact that they considered failures to be learning lessons. Bill Gates quoted in one of his conferences that “Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning”. Another important point that distinguishes them from being managers is the ability to recognize an opportunity and the ability to capitalize on that opportunity. Inspiring trust within the employees of an organization is also a key feature of a leader, a feature that was well executed by both Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. It was there leadership qualities as well as their managerial skills that enabled them both to be huge business successes.…

Steve Jobs lived a life unparalleled by the common man. Raising some of the most successful corporations from the ground up, being at the forefront of the technological revolution, and battling pancreatic cancer for a number of years were all things that he succeeded in accomplishing throughout his 56 years of life. He also happened to deliver a brilliant commencement address to one of the finest academic institutions in the world. Any college graduate in the audience that sunny afternoon at Stanford University was in for a treat. The irony behind the whole situation was the fact that Steve Jobs himself, although arguably one of the most successful men of the 21st century, never graduated college. “…this is the closest I've ever gotten to a college graduation”, Jobs confesses immediately after he begins speaking. Throughout the speech, the experiences he shares with the audience all share a common theme; the pursuit of happiness will lead you down the road of success if you follow your intuition and do what makes you truly happy.
