Operational problems of khadi and village industries with special reference to payyanur khadi centre

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament (No. 61 of 1956, as amended by act no. 12 of 1987 and Act No.10 of 2006. In April 1957, it took over the work of former All India Khadi and Village Industries Board.

The broad objectives that the KVIC has set before it are... * The social objective of providing employment.
* The economic objective of producing saleable articles. * The wider objective of creating self-reliance amongst the poor and building up of a strong rural community spirit.

Statement of the Problem
Even though the khadi centre engages the production and marketing of khadi products, the performance of the unit is not satisfactory. It may be due to its problem in the area of production, finance or marketing of products. Therefore the project proposes to conduct a study in this particular area Objectives of the study

* To examine the operational performance and to identify the problem of the unit in its daily operations * To identify the problem of the unit in the area of finance, production and marketing Scope and significance

* Khadi and Village Industries play an important role in the Indian economy in creating income and employment opportunities in the rural, semi urban and urban areas * more and more job opportunities can be created if the importance of khadi products are delivered to public * New policies of government will affect the existence and development of this sector * As an effect of globalisation, khadi and village industries have a great role to play.
