Operating Systems
The four operating systems of Windows, Mac OS, UNIX, and Linux are different in several ways. Windows operating systems were released in 1983. Windows has many different versions starting Windows 1.0 to the very latest of Windows Vista. Each version was designed to do something a little different. Windows 95, 98 and ME are designed for home users where Windows 2000 and NT are designed for business use. UNIX operating systems are designed more for businesses and do not have near the problems that Windows OS has. UNIX is the earliest operating systems created. UNIX is a multiprogramming and multitasking operating system. Linux is an operating system that was built from scratch from Linus Torvalds, a student at the University of Helsinki. This operating system is free of charge and used by many businesses today. Linux is reliable, user friendly, is able to run personal computers. Mac operating system was designed from Apple Computer Corporation for Macintosh computers in 1984. This was the first successful operating system. Mac OS and Linux is based on a UNIX based system. Mac OS has an advanced graphical interface. Most users use MAC for burning music, images, or movies to CDs and DVDS. Mac OS is popular in the entertainment industry. These four systems have helped people run their personal or business affairs. Each system is unique in its own way.
Computers come in all different sizes, shapes, and now even colors. Different types of computers are needed for different types of jobs.
Scenario 1
I would recommend that Sarah’s Flower Design get two different types of computers to run the business efficiently. I would recommend that the store have a minicomputer. This way the mainframe computer can coincide with the handheld computer Kim would be carrying to deliver flowers. This way Kim can let the flower shop know when the delivery has been made and get the directions she would need to get to the place she needs to deliver the arrangements.... [continues]
