Online Dating
Internet Dating; Plenty of Fish

Internet dating is one of the most popular ways to meet the ideal person for a relationship. These websites are to help a person to get to know one another with the idea of meeting and possibly dating. Dating websites offer two people a chance to get to know one another without the complete knowledge of what the other person looks like, and creates the chemistry couples need for a relationship without looks getting in the way. Online dating also allows for people to get to know others without leaving the comfort of their own home. Not only is online dating conventional, it’s cheap and even sometimes free. The amount of people available for one to meet is endless. You can browse a profile and in a matter of minutes chat with that potential suitor. However, there are down sides in free online dating. Free means anyone can have access to joining. There are many people out there that are willing to falsify their intentions when joining these free sites. Plenty of fish for instance “is one of the world’s largest free dating sites. Currently they have more than 10 million registered members, primarily from the United States.” (dating site reviews.com) With over 10 million daters, how many could really be looking for that real love? Yes Pof has features like private messaging, im, and chemistry matching, but with no cost, there is no barrier for creating a membership. This can mean scam artists, married individuals or people looking for just a hook –up. “Plenty of fish dating forums are a place to meet single and get dating advice of share dating experiences etc. Hopefully you will have fun meeting singles and try out this online dating thing… Remember that we are the largest 100% free online dating service, so you'll never have to pay a dime to meet your soul mate.” (Marcus, creator of pof)

Nonetheless, I don’t consider the online dating strategy to be an effective or good idea in the first place because there are too many problems and negative effects that can come from it more so than positive ones. I think people should be very careful. Meeting strangers face to face in social situations is good so long as you size them up, look at their body language and how they interact with others. See their friends as this will tell you a lot about them. Before considering them a romantic possibility it is better to get to know them first as friends and find out what they are really…

The first dating rule I would have for my kids is no online dating. There is no way to know if somebody is real. There are lots of people pretending to be other people online. If one person found another person online and they made plans to meet in real life, one of the people might be pretending to be another person. That could put the other person in a lot of danger. If somebody lived far away from the person they were dating, that couple would not be able to be with each other. An online relationship just does not have the same effect as one in real life.…

This feature is rarely found but it can be done on do-it-yourself websites or social media because the individual has the ability to search for someone that has the attributes they look for. eHarmony and Chemistry lack this because they try to find people who best match personality traits, and the customer cannot specify what they would like. For instance, eHarmony does not even allow people to choose which gender they prefer a match in. Price is a feature that truly affects how many people sign up to use certain websites, and with eHarmony’s high price, they create a disadvantage for themselves since there are so many cheaper options for consumers. The bargaining power consumers have is high, because they can switch so easily from eHarmony to another website from the same industry. The feature of looking for a serious relationship only exists for eHarmony and Chemistry who were created just for that reason. eHarmony was the creator of this new market segment with the blue ocean strategy, but Chemistry soon was created to compete with eHarmony. Other websites focus more on a casual relationship or a one-time affair. Finally, member base is another vital feature that majority of websites have a lot of. Yet, social media and free do it yourself websites all have a much higher member base because of the price. eHarmony and Chemistry have a…
