One Test Hypothesis
Education is an integral part of a person’s success, which is unquestionable, but just how important is debatable. Learning Team D’s interest lies in determining the relationship between experience and education in regards to a salary. Using the data provided, the team created and tested a hypothesis to explore the relationship. Throughout the following paper, Learning Team D will look at data for those with a higher level of education and determine if the testing finds them more financially successful, than those with a similar level of experience.
Hypothesis Statement: Numerical and Verbal
Learning Team D wants to evaluate the average salary of the wage earners in the data set. Among the wage earners Team D wants to prove the hypothesis that the average salary of the wage earners is greater than $40,000. Team D is going to use a significance level of 0.05. Reviewing the data of 100 wage earners Team D will use the five step hypothesis test and MegaStat to accept or reject the null hypothesis.
The numerical statement for the hypothesis is:
Ho: μ < 40,000
Ha: μ > 40,000[pic]
The Five-Step Hypothesis
    The first step in the five-step hypothesis is to state the research question. In Team D's research problem is the mean salary of the wage earners greater than $40.000? The population of interest in this situation is all of the wage earners in the data set. "The parameter of interest is the mean and the variable salary is continuous.  The hypothesized value of the parameter, the mean, is $30,000. Since the parameter is populations mean of a continuous variable, this suggests a one sample test of a mean"(The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 2011 para 2).
