One-Sided Friendship
Basadre, Danielle Ella Mae B. February 4, 2011
Neon-IV Draft # 2
Aim: To write a personal narrative essay

One-Sided Friendship Ever since I was a little girl, I have had this best friend who is really unusual. But this friend of mine is amazing; he would take me to new places, new adventures. He opened a world of learning and entertainment. He showed me a lot of things and he makes sure that I’m always aware and updated in the latest happenings. And you know what’s even better? He is always there when I need him. He doesn’t ask for so much attention and being with him gives me comfort and warmth. But, little did I know, that this best friend would soon betray me and cause me suffering. If before he was a good influence, now, he was a distraction, and I seemed to be so drawn into his world, that I even ignored things that are really essential. So one day, when I was inside the house with him, my mother asked me to buy something. I was reluctant because I didn’t want to leave him. But then I had to obey; I went to the table to get the money beside the “fresh from the kettle tumbler” with c alamansi juice on it which had been prepared by my mom. Unfortunately, I accidentally knocked the tumbler over and the freshly boiled juice spilled onto my thigh. And all of this happened because I wasn’t giving my full attention to what I was doing; my attention was always on my bestfriend. I cried and I cried but he didn’t help me. My best friend had abandoned me. It really hurt when my thigh was burned. It was hard for me to move especially walk. It was really a traumatic and saddening experience for me. I’ve realized that this friendship of ours was not healthy. Even my mother told me that spending time with him is bad, especially now

Essay Sometimes friends are liars and sometimes they are great friends, but they use you to their advantage. I remember one time I made a friend that only hung out with me because I always had money and it wasn’t long till I figured out she was using me, but I didn’t have many friends so I continued to hang out with her. One day her father died and before he died, I visited him at the hospital. He made me promise to take care of her and I still do to this day.…

    One-Sided Relationship

In school there is always one kid that a person will hang out with, although that person does not want to be seen with him. They will only associate with that one person when they have no one else to hang out with or when they need something from them. It is evident through the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, that in a one-sided relationship there is always one person in a friendship who will unconditionally love the other person and one who will be willing to take advantage of the other. In the novel, Hassan will always do anything for Amir because he is a loyal and true friend. On the other hand, Amir only hangs out with Hassan when no one else wants to play with him. Amir does not notice how unfair his relationship with his best friend is until he brutally watches Hassan get raped in the alley by Assef. Through the actions of Hassan and Amir, it is evident that a one-sided relationship will not work out because there will always be jealousy, lies, and shame to deal with.…

This experience taught me how everyone and everything in life is temporary. To this day I still remember to cherish my best friend even if she lives across the world. On the other hand, I have had trouble trusting people in relationships and even in friendships. But I promise I will be better. I tell myself that one person’s mistakes should not define everybody. I tell myself second chances can occur more than twice and that there are people out there with good intentions and wanting to make someone smile. I promise every day, I will become a better version of myself…

Then, perhaps, there is that one person who is as close to you as a brother or sister or perhaps, as the Bible says, “is a friend that sticks closer than a brother” (Prov. 18:24), someone in whom you can confide and trust, and with whom you can share your hopes and dreams. A friend who is there not only through the good times, but also the bad—through thick and thin—someone who won’t desert you when the going gets tough.…

Friendship is defined by Webster as the state of being friends, friendly relation, or attachment, to a person, or between persons. Webster further states that friendship can also be describe as affection arising from mutual esteem, good will, friendliness, and amity. Friendship is considered to be an essential aspect of everyone’s life, as we are not self sufficient in and of ourselves. Friendship, as the world sees it, is a bond between two individuals that should not involve betrayal but should exhibit each individual as being trustworthy and loyal. In many cases, friendships, despite their necessities, are either forced or morally required to end because several components of the friendship have been ruined. We have substituted face-to face encounters with Facebook, Twitter and other social networks. In William Deresiewicz’s, article “Faux Frienship”, he identifies friendship as “a high calling, demanding extraordinary qualities of character –rooted in virtue” and he supports this perception of friendship by historical events and comparisons of romantic partners, parents and children and friendship in the workplace.…

Friends are those people who surround us with care and love. When life is so dark and all doors are closed, friends are that hope you can stand by. However, friends do not always form that beautiful emotional relationships, some of them rather carry other hidden intentions which are covered by the name of friendship. I believe that friends fall under two main categories which are real friends and friends of special interests.…

For most people, it is really hard to find someone who is completely honest, loyal, and a positive influence on your life, but there’s always a best friend for someone. Almost everyone has one and almost everyone is one. For me, I personally do not have a best friend. I stay to myself a lot and I’m not open about everything, it’s also hard to gain a new best friend if all of your old friends went off to college. A best friend is someone who is very generous, they’re there to lend you money when you run out, be your shoulder to cry on, and go out of their way if they really care about you. A best friend can be someone whom you’ve known since childhood but can also be someone that you’ve just met, and you both just click.…

Friendship is the time that we were blasting eighties music while driving around town, all off key at the top of our lungs, but enjoying every second of it. Even a year later, when I hear that same song on the radio, it takes me back to the special times I shared with such special people. Friendship is about being able to just sit around someone’s house, and still being able to have a good time. It is silent conversations, late night talks, finishing each other’s sentences and shared secrets. It is a lifetime filled with shared memories of laughter and love. Friendship is truer and rarer than the deepest of loves because best friends really are…

Moments after, a colleague of my father ran into his office and helped me. His name was Ali. He helped me clear the blood quickly and was very supportive. Number one is dishonesty. When friends become dishonest to each other, this will ruin the relationship. Trust is broken when the other is dishonest. Once the trust is broken, it is hard to put it back. Even if the other will tell the truth, if he once lied, he will be having a hard time to let the other person believe him. Dishonesty causes heart aches which will result to broken friendship. You don’t want to be associated with the person who hurts you so staying away from each other is the best way to heal the hurt.…
