ON THE JOB TRAINING IN MAKATI
When I entered the Executive Office, I greeted Ma’am Mara and Kuya Ichie, the janitor “Good Morning” and introduced myself. Aside from the orientation made by Ma’am Etzie, Ma’am Mara oriented me on what I am going to do and she toured me inside the Executive Office. She taught me how answer telephone calls, how to transfer telephone calls to other department, and how to give fax tone to the caller. Ma’am Mara told me that the General Manager Sir Edwin Fojas was out of town on two (2) months vacation leave and the Compliance Officer Sir Basil Perea was on a seminar, but will be reporting at the bank after two (2) days. I learned on that first day that I have to be very patient especially in answering phone calls.

On the first week of my training, I always made mistake. I was confused and passed the caller on the wrong department; sometimes I asked Ma’am Mara the local number on loans department even though I had the map on my side where I can refer from every time there is a phone call; and there was a time when I gave papers/documents to wrong department. I was so nervous because I knew that Ma’am Mara was angry at that time. While waiting for the time out, I said “I’m sorry” to Ma’am Mara for what I have done earlier. I did not clearly hear the name that she told me and I did not asked it again before I left the office. I was not yet familiar with the names of the employees/officers in the bank and their local numbers. She forgave me and told me to look first at the map to be familiar with the local numbers. I decided then to memorize the local numbers and names of the employees of Bangko Mabuhay so I no longer made mistakes and no longer interrupt Ma’am Mara’s works.

As I promise to myself, I memorized all the names of employees and local numbers even their positions. The day passed by, I no longer use the map.

There was also a time when the executive office had another on-the-job training (OJT) student. Ma’am Mara told me to teach Ezperanza “Ezpie” Custodio, OMT student in PUP how to use the telephone and how to transfer phone calls. I also toured her inside executive office to be familiarized with the room and equipment.

Once when Ma’am Mara was on leave, Sir Basil taught me to use the computer and printed some files for him. I typed the table of content of the documents. Sometimes other employees in the bank asked me to scan documents and send them to the other branch of Bangko Mabuhay like Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, Naic, Cavite and Indang, Cavite.

When we were nothing to do in the office, Ma’am Mara told me to go to another department so that I can learn from other employees. She will just call me if there will be some papers to be given to other department.

I was also assigned by Sir Basil to produce photocopies of some documents and type the name of the bank on top portion. Although I did not know yet how to operate the copying machine and the typewriter, I was able to accomplish the task through the help of my co- trainees.

I really enjoyed my on-the-job training at Bangko Mabuhay. I learned the basic office works, importance of productivity, the operation of common office equipment and facilities, the standard office rules and procedures and most of all the pleasant officers-employees relationships. All the good experiences, knowledge, skills and camaraderie’s I acquired during my OJT at Bangko Mabuhay will be most cherished and I am ready to put into practice once I graduated and then employed.

Acknowledgment is wholeheartedly extended to all employees of Bangko Mabuhay but most of all to Ma’am Maranatha “Mara” Bunda, the Executive Secretary, my mentor.

They were funny jokes, but at that time, I did not answer. I was regretful I could not say anything to him in English.…

I started my shift at 7:15 am. My work clothes are comfortable and unrestrictive; my footwear is flat, sensible and offers protection to my feet and ankles. When I arrive to the service user’s home, I knock on the door and wait to be let in either by one of the service user’s or by a work colleague. Once inside I greet the service user, if they are awake. I then head to the sleep in room, to start verbal handover with my work colleague. After the 15 minute handover, I then check and sign the handover sheet. Check the on call rota, should there be an incident or or accident. Also check the communication book and also check any money and medication, then checking the activity planner. Once the service user wakes, we say hello to each other, and chat for a short period. I encourage them to start their personal care. After, I ask them if they need any support with getting dressed and preparing breakast. The time is now 8:00 so I administrer the morning medication. I always wash my hands before handling food or medication and after assisting with any personal care. After the service user has had their breakfast. I support them with the washing up. I will then encourage the service user to clean their property. I will then support the indiviual in safely cleaning, all ares with correct products. After this I consult with the service user, about their activity plan for the day, if the service user decided to go into town. I ask them how they would prefer to travel, by bus or by personal car.…

Promotion is always available for a warehouse operative if tasks are done really well on a consistent basis. Competency assessment forms, can prove if an employee is working to a suitable standard and if they are exceeding expectations of the job that is assigned to them. this and other factors can direct a worker to promotion. A personal development plan is also looked at (PDP), and this a meeting with the employees line manager to go through the KPI’s and see what can be done to meet them. If the employee is staying on top of their work and this is proven to the line manager then a promotion may be in place. Yesterday was 5th of June, the first day of the ESL class and the first day of my job, what a bad coincident! Anyway after ESL class I went to work. I was familiar with the office and the workers because it was my brother’s office and my sister, who I have to sit in her place, was working there. I had visited the guy who was responsible of training me before he was amazing but I found him a little bit serious. He started to explain about the program that I had to work with. Everything was new, the files, the vocabulary that they use, and the computer program that I hadn’t worked with before. It wasn’t difficult but for the first day it was confusing I tried to take a note and memories the place of every files and invoices. Sometimes I made mistake but he was checking them and corrected them. He used to work with my sister who her English was better than me so he tried to make me like her in one day. After entering the numbers and prices in the computer he taught me to order the files by date. It was easy but I have to be careful. Any how I worked there till4:30 and then went home. What a busy day! The day before there was nothing to do and now there were a lot. I didn’t like to work there at first I took it for granted but after coming back home I thanked God because I had a job that I was looking for it more than 5 months.…
