On Job Training

When it comes to training new sales staff they need to understand the products, how to use the equipment to do their jobs, and company polices.   The sales staff needs to know what customer service is, how to respect the customer with out breaking company policies, and how to handle conflicts or upset clients.

On Job Training Goals

A successful retail employee is one who knows their job, the company policy, products, and great customer service skills. The first goal that I want to reach is that the new sales associates understand the company policy and how to handle returns, sale items, and holiday sales.   The second goal is to have to understanding how to use the cash register system, how to process sales, run credit cards, checks, and how to change register tape or reload paper that is needed in any of the equipments. Third goal is make sure that the new sales staff understand how to provide great customer service, this means that if the client is happy or upset that they are treated with respect and that they leave with a good experience.   The fourth goal is to make that our sales staff understands that yes we want to customers to be happy, but we also have company policies that have return guidelines that have to be followed. We want all customers to be very happy with our sales staff and our products but we also have to make sure that we are not breaking any company rules or policies to make a client happy.

Day One Training

First welcome the new sales staff to the company, hand out new employee information including the number to call in if unable to come to work because of illness or family emergencies. Then ask new sales staff to right down on a piece of paper what they know about retail sales, customer service, experience with sales equipment, and length of experience.
