People all over the world are fond of sports and games. Some people go in for sports for their health and some for professional aims. The aim of every professional sportsman is to take part in the Olympic Games and represent his or her own country. The tradition of the Olympic Games runs back to Ancient Greece when the first Games took place in the town of Olympia more than 2700 years ago. In 1896 the first modern Olympic Games were held. De Coubertin suggested the motto of the games: «Swifter. Higher. Stronger». Modern Games take place once in four years in different countries. The International Olympic Committee, at Lausanne, Switzerland, decides where each Olympics will take place. During the Olympic Games there are tournaments in many kinds of sports. There are Summer and Winter Games. Teams from different countries participate in different summer kinds of sports: swimming, boxing, running, field athletics, gymnastics during Summer Games. Among the Ukrainian sportmen there are many we can be proud of. Everybody knows the names of a champion in gymnastics Liliya Pidkopayeva, a swimmer Yana Klochkova, and champions in boxing Volodymyr and Vitaliy Klychko. Yana Klochkova is a swimmer, who has won five Olympic medals. 4 gold medals came in the 200 meter individual medley and the 400 meter individual medley at the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics.

If you want to become an Olympic champion you are to be strong-willed, determined and energetic, to try harder in your kind of sports, to be more persistent and devoted to what you do. You should plan your every day carefully. Sport teaches you to be more organized thus more successful and to become a winner and a champion.
