“Of Cars”
Cars serve for entertainment, for adornment, and for transportation.   Their chief use for entertainment, is in seclusion and excitement; for adornment, is in ostentation; and for transportation, is in necessity, and demand of daily activities.   For expert men perform, and always drive in a safe manner, stoplight by stoplight; but the common citizens, and the freeways and intertwining Los Angeles streets, are driven best, by those that are talented.   To spend too much time in driving is sluggish; to use them too much for adornment, is conceit; to make decisions wholly by their judgment, is the humor of a witness.   They perfect asphalt, and are perfected by experience: for natural talent is like natural rubber, that needs manufacturing, by cars; and cars themselves, do give forth burnt rubber too much at large, except they be bounding in by their tires.   Environmental men despise cars, fat men praise cars, and busy men use them; for they see not the cars ability; but there is an achievement by them, and allowed by them.   Drive cars not to have road rage; nor to merely take friend suggestions as driving tips; nor to find flashiness and arrogance; but to complete everyday necessities.   Some cars are to be looked at, others to be driven in, and some few are to be inspected and scruitinized; that is, some cars are to be admired from afar; other to be driven, but not curiously; and some few to be inspected, and driven with diligence and attentions.   Some cars also may be driven by acquaintances, and their experience summarized by others; but that would be only in the less important cars, and the cheaper sort of cars, else antique cars are like simple diamond necklaces, gaudy things.   Driving maketh a talented man; racing a ready man; and speeding a careful man.   And therefore, if a man speed little, he had need have great patience; if he race little, he had need to have a present urgency: and if he drive little, he had need have much stubbornness, to think he...
