Of Mice and Men Essay
Justin Dominguez
Stereotypes can destroy everyone especially the ones who are stereotyped. In the book “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck, two guys named George and Lennie they are friends and they work together. They find a job on a ranch and there is a lot of stereotypes on the ranch that the work on. In the book Steinbeck uses Crooks and Curley’s wife to show the evilness and hurtfulness in stereotypes and how they can hurt person who makes the stereotype and also the victim.

Crooks, an African American blacksmith that works on the ranch, is one of the people who is stereotyped and you can see the effect that it has on his life. This shows that Crooks is hurt because he is being mean and trying to make everyone feel as bad as him because he is hurt by stereotypes.

Curley’s wife also shows how stereotypes can be hurtful. For example George says “Well I think that Curley married a… tart” (pg28). A tart is another word for a slut, skank, or a hoe.
