Being president of the United States is not just a job, but a commitment to the country and it has grown to be one of the most powerful jobs. Election Day is one of the most serious days of the year in which American citizens get together and vote for a president to lead us into the betterment of our futures. Every four years during the campaign, two candidates must deem themselves worthy and prove to the nation that they are fit for the job and what the nation needs. In the 2012 presidential election, President Barack Obama is re-running against the new candidate Mitt Romney. This presidential election has been the most controversial since the election of George Bush and Bill Clinton. President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney come from two different backgrounds. Barack Hussein Obama was born on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was raised by his mother for some time and grew up without his father. Years later, Barack lost his father to a fatal car accident in 1982. Due to several family issues, Barack was sent to live with his maternal grandparents in Honolulu. Barack went to church regularly with his grandparents and was raised a Christian. Barack was an academic scholar. “He enrolled in the Punahou Academy and graduated with honors in 1979” (BO Bio). Within the next two years in 1981, he enrolled in Occidental College. Two years later he then transferred to Columbia University and graduated in 1983 with a degree in political science. He soon entered Harvard Law School in 1988 and graduated with a JD degree in law. He soon met Michelle Robinson while doing an internship at a law firm with Michelle being his advisor. The couple married in 1992 and later had 2 daughters. He began working at a law firm Miner, Barnhill, and Galland. “He later served on the U.S. senate for Illinois” (BO Bio).
