Nutrition an important concern in women

Nutrition is the total sum of the processes by which one acquires food, consumes/eat and the body uses the food for energy, maintenance and growth. It can also be defined as the process of nourishing or being nourished, especially the process by which a living organism assimilates food and uses it for growth and for replacement of tissues. Another definition says it is the science or study that deals with food and nourishment, especially in humans.

Good nutrition – an adequate, well balanced diet combined with regular physical activity – is a cornerstone of good health. Poor nutrition can lead to reduced immunity, increased susceptibility to disease, impaired physical and mental development, and reduced productivity. Malnutrition

Malnutrition is the condition that results from taking an unbalanced diet in which the quantity of food/energy or certain nutrients are lacking, in excess (too high an intake), or in wrong proportions. A number of different nutritional disorders may arise, depending on which nutrients are under or overabundant in the diet. In most of the places of world, malnutrition is present in the form of under nutrition, which is caused by a diet lacking adequate calories and protein. While malnutrition is more common in developing countries, it is also present in industrialized countries. In wealthier nations it is more likely to be caused by unhealthy diets with excess energy, fats, and refined carbohydrates. A growing trend of obesity is now a major public health concern in developing countries as well. Because it contributes to both over nutrition and under nutrition, malnutrition is said to be a “double burden. The World Health Organization cites malnutrition as the greatest single threat to the world's public health. Improving Nutrition is widely regarded as the most effective form of aid.
