NARRATIVE AND PICTORIAL REPORT ON
NUTRITION MONTH CELEBRATION
S.Y. 2013-2014

I. INTRODUCTION Yearly, in the month of July, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) leads the whole nation in the celebration of 2013 Nutrition Month, purposely to disseminate nutrition message to all Filipinos through a focal theme. The Nutrition Month theme for 2013 is “Gutom at malnutrisyon, sama-sama nating wakasan!” This is to raise awareness on the need for more action in addressing hunger as part of the Philippine’s commitment to the United Nations Millennium Development Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger. To support this developmental endeavor of the nutrition community, Aguho Elementary School celebrated last July 12, 2013. School head, teachers, parents and pupils are participating actively by undertaking meaningful activities which will highlight the importance of good health and nutrition. II. OBJECTIVES The objectives of this year’s celebration are as follows: a) increase awareness on hunger issues and actions to mitigate hunger and malnutrition; b) encourage stakeholders to contribute in addressing hunger issues; and c) advocate for stronger political action to end hunger.

FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS To diminish hunger, it is recommended that the school should plant root crops, fruit bearing trees and vegetables in their school facilities, for it will be of great help in conducting feeding program among those pupils who are severely wasted in status, it is for them also to be physically and mentally alert in every activities and could easily

    Preventing hunger does make a difference in the world by giving back to people who need it the most. According to (feedingamerica.org) food banks play an important role in not only providing food to those who need it, but also spreading the issue of hunger in our community. It is imperative that people spread awareness of hunger in the community so that food banks can get more volunteers and donations to better the community’s wellness. Hunger is a solvable problem, and the resources exist to solve it, but we need more people to become part of the solution. Everyone is the community can get involved by telling others that hunger exists right here and there is something they can do about it. Joining the effort to prevent hunger nationwide is needed to ensure that the future will be brighter with opportunities for everyone. Food banks are one of the ways hunger is being prevented and by volunteering at one I feel I can make a difference. I will document my efforts of volunteering at the community Food Bank of Southern Arizona by taking photos of the process. This particular activity will impact many lives in this community by preventing hunger. The effects of chronic hunger are severe and tragic it is crucial that people start spreading awareness of the effects that hunger can have in order to help make a difference. According to (freedomfromhunger.org) chronic hunger effect include vulnerability to common illnesses, increased risk of infection, impediments to economic growth, impediments to development and acute vulnerability in times of disaster. Chronic hunger is caused by poverty, armed conflict and environmental overload.
