Nurtured Rose
I can see the flower upon which my life grows, blooming into a rose. Every day I grow closer to achieving my dreams. A dream that started as a little seed, planted in my mind, the earth’s soil. This seed has been watered and nurtured every day, and has finally found room to grow. I was planted around many negative things; it made it hard for me to breathe. Dirty soil all around me; to my left a fiend shooting up with needles, and to my right a homeless person trying to dig up the soil and water I need to breathe. Most don’t know what it is to live day by day trying to grow, while people are stepping on you, bringing you down and holding you in strong holds. My first day of school, I was told less than half of my class would graduate. This gave me a reason to work hard and excel. My seed found motivation to rise up and my stem began to grow. I started to show the hope, courage, and strength in my petals. My life as a flower began to bloom and prosper, as I began to mature and grow.
I started my freshmen year out at Grant High School. A place where people automatically assumed there was bad soil and I wouldn’t be fertile. Grant is a huge place of diversity. A school of pride. Everyone walks the halls proud to be a Pacer. Many stereotypes were spread upon us, because of the neighborhood; we should all be considered poor and in poverty. If they walk around the perimeter of my soil just for a day, they would see my world at Grant. A flower blooming dressed to impress, beautiful and intelligent, Honors classes, leadership roles in various clubs, and a positive young African American making her life above average.
Senior year may not be the pick of the patch, but I am just as beautiful as the rest. My soil has been watered and nurtured, the foundation has been laid.
