Purpose
My purpose of selecting the topic “The Nursing Professional” is because some people do not accept nursing as a professional career. Like other professions; however, it is a career that has its own structure, rules and regulation that qualifies it to be professional enough.

Literature Review
There is an argument about the professionalism of nursing. Whereas, there are numerous requirements that qualify nursing to be a profession. Some of the characteristics are educational background, certification process, code of ethics, autonomous and self regulation, and ongoing research of the profession. In addition, nursing is a career that teaches a community about the prevention and controlling of diseases. Therefore, nursing is a career that fulfills the requirements of a professional career.

Educational Background
In order for a student to become a nurse, he or she has to finish a high school diploma and specific college level credits before entering into the nursing program. After admission, students must pass the theoretical and clinical part of the courses. This requirement prepares students for the competency exam at the end of their school period to make sure if they mastered the course material they have learned throughout the course period.

Certification Process
Another criterion that qualifies nursing to be a profession is the certification
