Abstract
At one time or another, everyone gains knowledge regarding nursing homes. For most individuals, placing parents or even other relatives that need rehabilitation or long term care is stressful event. Many want to insure that the environment is a safe and caring one. This takes diligent research and organizational skills. A decision of this magnitude needs to have analytical work organization. As time passes many nursing homes have faced issues in ethics, society, and most have economic difficulties. A better plan for management and back up plans would enable the nursing homes run more effectively.
Nursing Homes In today’s Society
For many years, nursing homes have faced many challenges. The most common areas of trouble are in the economic, social, and legal environments. These difficulties are largely due to the organizations issues in finances, management, and operation of the business.
According to the Levin Associate Report, nursing homes have survived through economic eras. One era, referred to as the “boom” years, was before 1987. After 1987, came the “bust” years. During these times, there were two events. First, Beverly Enterprises sold more beds that they purchased and pricing was at an all time high at $33,000.00 per bed. (Trends, 2011)
Hardships during the Reagan administration included fluctuating real estate values, wages were low, and insurance for health care were lacking. After the Reagan administration, tax-exempt bonds were complicated to acquire. Placing investment capital within an unsecured environment would be unwise.
