Nurses in the FBI

Not many people think of the medical profession when they think of the FBI but there are jobs out there for those who are interested. “Joining the FBI, from application to hire, can take six to eight months”. (Brunot) The FBI employs nurses both as special agents and as medical professionals. If one is a registered nurse ages 23 to 36 and have three years of nursing experience they qualify to apply for positions as FBI forensic nurses. If the nurse wants to, they can ask to become trained as a special agent. The FBI also provides training in the areas of “evidence handling, documentation, court testimony and wound identification.” (Brunot) These nurses turned agents can pursue specialization as sexual assault nurse examiners with SANE certification, health care fraud investigators or geriatric forensic nurses. FBI forensic nurses are present at arrests that could have possibility of injury to provide victims with initial medical attention. (Brunot) I would rather be hired as a registered nurse for a professional staff position. These nurses work in the domestic or international field offices and at the Washington DC-based Health Care Programs Unit. (Brunot) Doing this I would assist employees who feel sick on shift, administer annual flu shots to staff and give those traveling outside of the country needed immunizations. (USAJOBS) If I were to work at the health care programs unit I would assist with reviewing of physical exam results to determine possible and current employee ability to perform their assigned duties. I could also be assigned to provide medical care to people in custody.(Brunot) To work for the FBI in any job one must be a U.S. citizen, not have a felony conviction, and must not have defaulted on any student loans.(Brunot) One must also pass a drug test.
