Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection - Research Proposal

Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection - Research Proposal Reviewing literature is very important when preparing for research proposal do. When doing a literature review or literature search researcher will get knowledge of what is been known about the topic that he/ she interested. Moreover, reviewing literature also will help the researcher to know the holes in the current studies or what other recommendations for the future researches. Normally, the researcher begins the literature review with a study topic that he or she is interested. Many published studies already have recommendation for the future studies, so the idea for study may perform while reading a published study report. Then literature review will help to locate framework for the proposal study by doing the research hypothesis or questions based on the theoretical or conceptual framework of the study. Literature review also help plan the study methodology. There are many sources available for the nurses to search on their research proposal (Nieswiadomy, 2008). Increased use of catheterization affects the patients’ quality of life and place financial burden on health care system in terms additional treatment and increased length of stay. Urinary tract is normally stay sterile, when disturbance occurs by placing a urinary catheter can introduce bacteria in the urinary system internally or externally and cause Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). For this research proposal, I have reviewed a research article, ‘strategies to decrease the duration of indwelling urethral catheters and potentially reduce the incidence of CAUTI’ done by Bernard and Hunter. In this literature review, there are nine studies done and mainly focused on reducing the duration of catheter use, and subsequently, the incidence of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI). Most of these studies involved reminder systems to trigger the continued use of...
