Nuclear technology is a technology that involves the reactions of atomic nuclei. Among the notable nuclear technologies are nuclear power, nuclear medicine and nuclear weapons. Moreover, nuclear technology is considered as a silver bullet for energy crisis in order to fulfill our energy demands. In my opinion, I certainly believe that the benefits of nuclear technology far outweigh the drawbacks in terms of the energy efficiency and healthcare.
Firstly, nuclear energy used in the nuclear power station to generate electricity is a sustainable energy resource. It is environmentally friendly as it reduces the carbon emission and produces virtually no air pollution, in contrast to the chief viable alternative of fossil fuels. If we use this nuclear energy, the amount of energy produced is much higher and the cost needed in the process is relatively low compared to the burning of fossil fuels. In other words, nuclear energy saves cost while maintaining the quality and quantity of energy produced.
Furthermore, nuclear technology also plays an important role in medical application field. It is used for diagnostic and radiation treatment. For example, the discovery of radiopharmaceuticals helps the doctor to detect and evaluate diseases such as brain disorder, heart diseases and cancer in the body. With this new breakthrough, many diseases can be cured by treating them earlier and faster. This substantially improves our health, gives more hope to patients and saves more lives.
On the other hand, some parties strongly argue that nuclear technology has brought many disastrous effects to us. The most obvious example is the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan which happened last year. The effects of the leakage of radioactive elements on human health are still present until now.
