“Books contain gold; books contain beauty like the diamond.” This is an old saying that I learn from our culture, and this is a way parents tell us the importance of the books. In addition, my opinion is that people can learn more from reading books rather than reading books.
  Books often contain scholars’ thoughts, while the content of most television programs is concerning entertainment. Many popular television programs are soup opera, talk shows, or real-men shows like Project Runway. Even in the television shows for educating, such as Discovery and Nature World, people cannot learn scholars’ thoughts from them. And these television shows are not show the depth and details of many significant scholars. Unlike television, different kinds of books contain different ideas and thoughts of writers. People could enjoy and think about the metaphor and irony of the words, like the book Black and Red.
  Compared with television, books can inspire people to imagine, to think and to learn. Obviously, televisions show people animated and vivid images, which books cannot do. However, for this reason, it leaves people much room to imagine the pictures of the stories. The animation of television can let people understand easily, but it not good for people to learn and study. Books leave people to think in different ways, and learn more from the book as well. Take the main characters of Hamlet written by William Shakespeare, for example, not every actor or actress can exactly show the characteristics of the main characters. Many audiences might be upset for their performance. Some audiences, who have not read this book, might be.
  Books could help people to search knowledge that people want to know, television does not have this function. For example, through Oxford Dictionary, people could find the exact meaning of the words including many academic words. If people want to learn some professional subjects, they can look up in the libraries for similar topic, and learn... [continues]
