Nineteen eighty four
What techniques did the party Ingsoc implement to create order and control throughout the nation of Oceania?

The big brother concept is used in today’s day and age for entertainment use only, But imagine if that was how a nation lived there lives, under the constant watchful eye that is big brother, controlling your every move and killing who doesn’t do so. The novel nineteen eighty four is based around this very same complex concept. Big Brother is the leader of the party “Ingsoc” which controls the nation of Oceania; it’s astounding how the nation is able to live in a civilised fashion whilst a brutal war is being conducted. It is obvious that Ingsoc is commanding there citizens to worship the party and commit their lives fully. Ingsoc conducts this in many ways; by using propaganda, invasion of personal privacy, Intel spies, altering official records and many more. This does beg the question, how where they able to implement these techniques? With brutal fighting, the dread of dying, the horrific killing. Who would want to live in a world like this? This is the state of Winston’s world with no way of changing it, this is the only way of living that the population has ever known. No one will ever know why or how the world used to be, who’s to blame? Ingsoc. Inside the party, there are four different ministries; the ministry of peace, plenty, love and truth, this gives the party the ability to control nearly every aspect of its nation. They are also able to control the past, through the ministry of truth, by ways of forgery, propaganda and lying. This runs very true to one of the party’s slogans “who controls the past, controls the future, who controls the present controls the past”. Anything the party detested from or did not approve of has the power and ability to erase and obliterate anything from history, thus meaning it had never existed. “The past was brought up to date.
