Night Marchers of Iao
Night Marchers of Iao

I woke up from a deep sleep to dogs barking. It was around midnight. There was a sound, it sounded like a pounding of drums, and there were voices chanting I could not make what they were saying. As it came closer and louder my heart started beating faster and faster. As I looked to see what it was. I saw mist moving and lights flickering of what looked like tiki torches. Not one but almost a dozen. So I called out to them. “Eh what’s with all the racket, what’s going on?” They didn’t answer and continued on. I went to ask my kupuna “Eh kupuna who are those people who walk around chanting beating a drum.” Those are the ancient Night Marchers! No mess with them and don’t look them in the eye or you will die!
So I tried to go back to sleep that night, and I encountered them again hearing the beating of the ceremonial drums and them chanting by my house. I got really scared because of all the stories that Ive heard about the night marchers and creped by the see through window. I couldn’t see anything or anyone outside but all I could hear was voices. I started getting afraid and didn’t know what to do. After several times of trying to fall asleep, I started to see visions or scary thoughts. I could see scary ugly faces in the dark with fierce red eyes staring at me. My heart began to pound and I felt like they were coming after me. It almost sounded like their drums were beating the same time as my heart. The sounds felt like they were getting closer and closer and ready to attack me. Their unrest souls were coming back to avenge their death. I could feel their warm whispering voices as if they were right by my right shoulder blade and I could feel the hair on the back of my neck lifting as if they were trying to communicate with me. Nothing was going right and I felt like I was losing my mind. Tears of sweat were dripping down my face because I couldn’t put together what was happening to me. “Why me? Why do I have to witness these

They swished their blue-scaled tails pail as the summer sky and started to sing, voices harsh and smooth, like waves of pebbles and sway and I stopped worrying about what they were. In fact, I wasn’t thinking about anything at all, except how to keep time with their hypnotic chants. I sway like a ship at sea, slow dancing in a daze until the music…

I am Atticus finch. I'm a lawyer in this small town of Maycomb and have taken on many cases but the most confusing and most difficult case I've had was a rape case. The alleged mans name is Tom Robinson, a black man living in this town of Maycomb. I thought I had this case "in the bag", but it seems racism is a bigger threat than I thought. People had intent to kill and I had to protect Tom.…

Marching, marching is a form of walking consisting of the military step which has a cadence. The origin of the military is long been lost. But some theorist believes it derived from the ancient Babylonian military. Ancient stones have shown through pictures or formally known as pictographs. Pictographs are the earliest known form of writing discovered in Ancient Egypt. These late pictographs showed the Babylonian military being in step, forming left leg to right arm, while holding their military gear.…

The anthropologist has become so familiar with the diversity of ways in which different people behave in similar situations that he is not apt to be surprised by even the most exotic customs. In fact, if all of the logically possible combinations of behavior have not been found somewhere in the world, he is apt to suspect that they must be present in some yet undescribed tribe. The point has, in fact, been expressed with respect to clan organization by Murdock (1949: 71).[2] In this light, the magical beliefs and practices of the Nacirema present such unusual aspects that it seems desirable to describe them as an example of the extremes to which human behavior can go.…

It was still in its nondestroyed state. I was with my friends from night one plus my friend's mother that I mentioned earlier as well, and my own parents. I walked into the building and I saw that room with a locked door that has the light on at all times. I was told to never go inside of that room. They told me that it was not for me to go into. I was going on vacation to this house for some reason so I had to unpack my bag in a bedroom. The house was very old so I ignored any movement that I heard I put my things on the bed and I was very cold. My mom called out for me to go to the main room. I went out there and noticed that people were crucified, hanged, torn in half, and burned. The door with a mysterious light was open and the girl was standing in front of it. I was afraid not because of the bodies but because the door was open. The girl motioned for me to come to her and I was unable to resist walking to her. As I got closer she looked more disfigured and evil. Her eyes were the biggest part that I remember. They were black with light pupils. She had claws like in my earlier dreams and she had a scream that paralyzed me. She ran at me and right as she was about to hit me I saw every event that I have that I have done to help or hinder people in real life. This felt like it went on forever and then I woke up screaming and in a cold sweat. My mother was trying to wake me up for ten minutes because of my screams. I knew that something was wrong at this…

Imagine being out in the fields hunting with your father. It has been a long day and a spitted warthog hangs between you. All of a sudden you are ambushed! An enemy tribe attacks you and your father. You fight using your makeshift spear but are overwhelmed by the number of tribesmen. You are hit in the head with a rock and fall unconscious. When you wake you are being loaded into a great wooden monster. You cringe in fear as you and your fellow captives are herded into this great wooden beast. You scream in protest at the white men who have chained you but they just beat you on the head with their rifles. You are taken into a dark and disgusting hold. The prisoners next to you are screaming in fear. The smell of waste and vomit permeates everything. As a white man chains you down below you think of your family and realize you are never going to see them again. Sleep comes slowly because of the cries of pain and misery; the rocking of the floor eventually puts you to sleep. A long time has passed. Your days consist of sleeping in your own filth, eating a disgusting porridge, and rarely seeing outside your hold. But one day the hold is opened and bright light blinds you. You are lifted to your weakened legs and led outside. The land is alien to you, and white men are everywhere. You are paraded in front of a great throng of white people. The humiliation is great as you are poked and inspected. Eventually you are shackled and loaded onto a horse-drawn cart. The ride is long and uncomfortable and the destination more frightening. You have no idea what is going to happen to you and are very much afraid. You come to a great house and are taken to the fields around the house. You are given into the custody of a great white brute. He puts you into a small cottage with other black men. You have a very difficult time understanding their languages but eventually they get a message across to you: You are a slave, and will live the rest of your days as one.…

Its deathly dark and you violently realize, with the groans in the distance, that you are waiting to be put to death for what you fervently believe. You weren’t the only one in this situation, there were many others; this was all due to the Spanish Inquisition. This was a hard time for all non-believers of the Catholic faith. You were either forced to admit to a false “sin” and turn to the Catholic faith or be tortured to death as an act to “purify” Spain. Throughout The Pit and the Pendulum, there were various types of torture that were both cruel and unusual. There were also many cases of victims losing their mind while in captivity. One of the most important questions in The Pit and the Pendulum was that if all of this was even happening to the individual in the story or if they were just dreaming of events that might come to be.…

My father was never unkind, always welcoming, always laughing. He has a soft spot for travelers for he came from three generations of travelers. Those that came from the mountains or the lowlands are welcome in his hearth to rest their weary bodies after days of traveling. He welcomed everyone; the dark skinned highlanders who were known as headhunters and the pale foreign people. On the rare occasions that he paid attention to me as a child, he would tell me the story of how he came to my mother’s village. I will cherish the almost boyish mischief in his eyes when he began his tale. According to him, his grandfather Acop (named after the owl perched on his shoulder) came from a village of the head hunters. The old man Acop, always thought there must be more than just trying to survive in a land where the constant fear for your life and your family’s life is a normal part of living. He was born to be a headhunter yet part of him wanted a peaceful life. But he was a warrior, and the desire for peace is unlikely for one; so he prayed to Kabunyan for a sign. It was told that the Old man Acop started the journey south when he saw a deer with golden teeth. This was a deer like no other, for he motioned Acop to follow him.…
