“New York Day Women”

Suzette is curious mother about her mother, more than she is about her. It’s clearly that Suzette and her mother have conversations and gets along with just minor issues. However Suzette mother always assumes her daughter is fine and everything is going well for her. It’s clear that Suzette does not know a lot about her mother, and probably was not that close to her. One example is when Suzette was following her mother she stated “she didn’t know her mother her mother ate frankfurters,” but knows her mother should not eat nothing with sodium.
Suzette’s mother is not interested in he daughter. Suzette’s mother was not too much interested in her personal life she always watch lottery on channel 11, and is okay with denture and claims her significant other does not kiss her as he use to, she have conversation with herself while in the kitchen peeling the skin off the poultry. Suzette’s mother told her daughter how of a good stewardess she would be and how she know she was doing well in school so she didn’t evening had to find out anything from her teacher.
The Narrator was curious to see what her was about and follows her to a park to find out what she was up to and she found out she attends to other peoples kids and bought food for him and gave more loving and interest in him that she ever receive. One example was when she peak in his big bird book as if she was very interested. Her daughter must be surprised by this because she has never showed interest in her especially the parents-teachers associate meetings she should have attended when she was a student in school.
The Narrator also describes her mother family back home in Haiti. She lost six of her seven sisters in Ville Rose and never fined the strength to return for their funerals. She had a conversation with her daughter about sending clothes to Haiti, but she never really send those clothes and never travel back to Haiti.

As Jeanette's dad is no longer contributing to the family like he should, Jeannette struggles to convince her siblings he is there for them in a conversation they have ‘“Dad has to start carrying his weight,’ Lori said… ‘He does!’ I said. ‘He brings money from odd jobs.’ ‘He spends more on booze,’ Brian said”’.(78) This quote supports my claim because it shows that Jeannette still has denial about her father even though with her siblings help she will begin to realize the truth about him. The conversation also proves my thesis because with her siblings help Jeannette will clear away her denial, giving her a better path toward success. The one person that Jeannette was in the most denial about was her father, a deadbeat drunk that couldn't hold a job, know matter what he did she always forgave him and would always defend him in his weaker moments. A quote displaying Jeanette's denial of her father's true nature is when she goes over to her neighbor Billy’s house and he told her her dad was just like his, “‘My daddy is nothing like your daddy!’ I shouted. “‘When my daddy passes out, he never pisses himself!” (p. 83). This quote helps prove my claim because it shows that she is aware that her dad is a drunk, but is rejecting the idea that her father is as faulty as Billy’s father. It also helps support my thesis…

The first paragraph of the story tells us that the mother loved her daughters very much. She prepared everything such as making the yard so clean just to wait for her daughter to come. Therefore, we can say that the mother is a loving mother. In the paragraph number four, the mother tells the readers that she dreamed a dream that one day she and her daughter Dee brought together on a TV show and her daughter would tell the world how she was proud of her mother. The paragraph can tell us that the mother was only proud of Dee, not Maggie. She only dreamed that Dee would say something great about her, she didn’t mention anything about Maggie. So, one of the character of the mother was partial. The paragraph thirteen tells us that the mother was a poor and uneducated woman.…

The central idea in this story seems to be the mother’s search of an understanding of her daughter’s personality and outlook on life. The majority of the story is the mother trying to depict reasons for why her daughter is the way she is, so delicate, reserved, needless, and even unhappy at times. She seems to also defend her parenting choices by making excuses or blaming the urges of others in order to not have all the blame on her. She speaks about how she had no other option but to put her in the care of someone else at the age of two, even though she knew the teacher was “evil” (Pg. 925). “It was the only place there was…the only way I could hold a job” (pg. 925).…

Numerous kids have had troubles with connecting to their parent, even to this day. This is expressed in various ways, like in movies or films, the average television shows, and in just normal books. Adding on to how children and parents sometimes have tension between themselves, the same concept is applied to the short stories, Confetti Girl and Tortilla Sun. In both of these short stories, the parent and child are trying to connect, but are unable to do so, resulting in the child feeling unappreciated. In Confetti Girl, the narrator feels forgotten and not cared about by her father, resentment building in the tension. Whereas in the story Tortilla Sun, the narrator Izzy is Both children from both stories feel neglected by their one and only…

    A. Jeannette, at the beginning of the story, is a prosperous news reporter in a pretty dress on her way to a very fancy party. This is the first glimpse we see of her, but the book is done as a ‘flashback’ of sorts, so even though technically she is a 30-something woman at the beginning of the story, she transitions back to when she was 3 years old. She talks, at least when she was talking with her mother when she was older, as if she knows what she’s talking of. She knows who ‘she’ is, even if she cannot at first come to terms with who her parents are. She begins by seeing her mother digging through the trash while she was on her way to a party. This upsets her enough to tell the cab driver to turn around so she could go back home.…

The short story "Annie's story", by Elisabeth Russell Taylor. The short story is about a little girl named Annie. Annie's father is a contributor to the Science Survey magazine, and he has a twin brother Hugo. Little Annie said to her father earlier that day, that she rather be her Uncle Hugo's daughter then his. Right in the beginning we get a feeling that Annie dislikes her father because he is never around for Annie. He is always in his study room. That's why she calls him a researcher because he always got a book to read or got a paper to finish. But her mother is the total opposite of the father. The mother doesn't do one thing that's compared to the father, and love being outdoors. Annie can see that her parents is opposite from each other and Annie can see that her mother and uncle are more alike. Annie's father is more the timid type and must have structure on everything and in relation to her uncle who is more the spontaneous and laid back type and is fun to be around with. The mother tells Annie that there are going to Pond Hills and Annie knew without a label who lives in Pond Hills and that does her uncle Hugo. On the way to Uncle Hugo Annie and her mother picks honeysuckle and red campion. After they had walked for a while Annie asked her mother why they never goes’ on holidays. The mother replied that Annie’s father didn’t like holiday. That made Annie think why and then she remembered that her father is a researcher. When they came over to Uncle Hugo he had made cream cheese and strawberry jam that says a lot about the two twins and how different they are from each other. Annie goes out to play and Uncle Hugo and the mother talks about that the mother have to leave her family. As I read the short story I learn more and more about how the mother is pregnant with her husband’s brother’s child. The mother had been unfaithful to her husband and that agents Christianity and in 1997 people looks down on adultery. Annie over hears theirs…
