Slavery might have been new for American colonies but for Africans it was part of their life. Slavery came to America on the 16th century, during that period Europeans were coming to America to build farms. However, they need it people to work on fields and be able to do the task they were asked to do. This leads to the main reason why they had slavery. Profit was very important for them, but they did not really want to do it themselves or pay for it. The only way was to bring people to make them slaves. Africans were the first slaves to arrive and to be traded. They were sent to Portuguese colonies, Mexico, and America as well. Africans were brought up here against their will, without any rights, freedom, or family that could support them .They had to suffer many oppressive conditions as part of being a slaves. Most of the slaves brought up here were prisoners of war, it was a way to punish them and make them pay for their actions. They were brought up here to be sold or trade for food. The ship they were brought in was hell for the slaves. Some could not handle their conditions on which they had to live with for day, and the pressure they had led some of the slaves to try and kill themselves. They decided to jump off the ship, some were starving themselves in till they were dehydrated and died. They had no beds, they would sleep on top of each other and the space they had was very small. No restrooms, which led to diseases, some died because of the diseases and they had no privacy what so ever. When they arrived they were forced to be check to see if they were healthy and ready to work. The one who were sick were sent back. For the first slaves who were brought here, they were lucky to have the rights of a servant not a slave. They had the opportunity to be free after years of working.
